History
This website first went online on the 12th of September 2021. Previously it had existed as a gopherhole opened on the 27th of June 2020. Both were started as boredom projects during the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. This site serves as a place to collect my interests apart from the noise of Big Tech, and is an excuse to play with different technologies. It is inspired by the Small Web and IndieWeb movements and reflects my personal desire for the Internet to be more private, decentralised and bloat-free. At the time of writing this, the landing page of this website weighs 91kB.Tools
I employ the following tools to build this site:- Vim - The text editor I primarily use to handwrite HTML, CSS and Javascript
- Pandoc - To convert tabulated data and Markdown into HTML
- sed and grep - For find and replace editing
- AWK - For bigger text processing tasks
Hosting
This site is hosted on Neocities, a free and open source web hosting service inspired by the now-defunct Geocities. Neocities offers no server-side scripting meaning everything you see on this site is written in plain HTML/CSS, with a tiny amount of Javascript. My intent is to eventually host this site on my own domain and server.
